Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg plus 1 yolk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon (for coating the cookies)

Directions

  1. Whisk the flour, baking soda, salt and spices together until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the sugars and butter together until creamy and light in color. Add the egg + yolk and the cream of tartar, beat until well combined.
  3. Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredient until just combined.
  4. Scoop the dough and roll into a ball. Roll the ball in the cinnamon/sugar mixture to coat.
  5. Bake at 325°F for 8-10 minutes. Let cookies rest on the hot baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.
